Direct Line Feed (DLF) allows a manufacturer to contract out the complete responsibility for the purchasing, management and supply of fasteners and 'c' class components. DLF supports the strategic needs of most manufacturers in the reduction of lead times, the enhanced ability to respond to changing end-customer demands and allows them to focus on their core business of manufacture.
The key to maintaining a steady flow of fastener parts to the point of use in stock availablility. Work station stock levels are agreed with the customer, replenishment frequencies are agreed and planning procedures are put in place for follow-on stock to be held in our warehouses supported with forward ordering from suppliers.
MBW's DLF system is based on a simple two bin arrangement. The assembly operator starts to pick parts from the front bin. When the bin is empty, it is removed and a second bin is moved forward and picking continues. The empty bin becomes the signal for replenishment and is placed at an agreed collection point for re-filling. This can either be done on-site or returned to our warehouses.
