MBW History

150 Years of Excellence

Andrew McLean and Company was formed in the heart of Clyde shipbuilding in 1847. In those days, a third of the entire world ship building took place on the Clyde, and McLean’s rivets provided the quality needed by those shipbuilders.

As the years progressed, McLean’s continued to supply fasteners to the construction sector through both wars. After the Second World War the company diversified into the broader manufacturing sectors.

In the 1960's, Andrew McLean and Company merged with another local fastener supplier, Buchanan and Wilson, resulting in McLean Buchanan & Wilson (MBW) as we know it today.

Throughout the 60's and 70's MBW continued to service predominantly the shipbuilding industry. However, as this sector diminished the focus moved to construction.  In particular, the steel fabricators and erectors where the need for quality assured fasteners resulted in strong partnerships with the UK's largest fabricators.

In the past twenty years MBW has developed an expertise within the Original Equipment Manufacturers' (OEM) sector supplying managed systems to some of the world’s leading automotive, pump and valve manufacturers.

The ability to adapt to new markets has been the key throughout the long life of the company. It is this strength that will determine the future success of the company.
