Suitability Test for Preloading

The publication of the EN 14399 series of standards for high-strength structural bolting assemblies for preloading specified a tightening test to verify the suitability of these bolt/nut/washer assemblies for preloaded connections.  The purpose of the test is to check the behaviour of the fastener assembly so as to ensure that the required preload can be reliably obtained by the specified tightening method.  Previously, Cooper and Turner had used an external test facility to carry out this testing but have recently taken delivery of specialist equipment manufactured by TesT GmbH which will enable testing of bolts up to M64 to be carried out in-house.  The equipment measures rotation, bolt force and torque and complies fully with the requirements of EN 14399-2.
